Recently, the Italian A’Design Award & Competition came to an end. Under the guidance of Wu Lianfan, a teacher of the Department of Product and Arts and Crafts Design, and Xiong Wei, a  corporate designer of Youth Glasses Design Workshop, product design major students Huang Lu and Pan Xiao won Runner-up awards in jewelry, eyewear and watch design.

As the world’s leading annual international design competition, A’Design Award is an internationally renowned event, recognized and recommended by organizations such as the International Federation of Graphic Design Associations ICOGRADA, the European Design Association BEDA, and the International Industrial Design Association ICSID. The contest provides the winners with opportunities for publication, public relations promotion and publicity, and encourages contestants to create excellent designs and build a better future. Both designs in the conceptual stage and realized products can participate. The award-winning works include excellent design works, design concepts and product services, and the winners are recognized by the global design community.

It is reported that the award-winning design work of Huang Lu and Pan Xiao is the excellent result of the First Youth Glasses Design Workshop named “Ouhai Glasses-Seeing the Future”. The workshop is jointly undertaken by the School of Media and Design Art of our school and the Zhejiang Optical Industry Innovation Service Complex, and the Optical Industry Designer Collaborative Innovation Center. Their work “Parker Mirror Nightclub Glasses” won the Best Creative Award and Best Potential Award in the workshop, and participated in the 2020-2021 Italian Design Award competition on behalf of the workshop.

This workshop is a powerful attempt of the curriculum system called “Three Creations, Integration of Art and Businesses” initiated by the School of Media and Design Art. The workshop adopts the teaching mode of “mentor + designer + group”. Under the dual guidance of professional teachers and corporate designers, students are engaged in exploring the first-line design needs by research, divergent thinking and deepening, etc. from both sides of the enterprise and the user. After online and offline full discussions among the instructors, designers and students, as well as students’ novel ideas, many design works with rich market value and creativity have been created.
